Writer's Life

The Journey to Here

I think I published my first book in 2016, although I had wanted to be a writer my entire life I got a bit of a late start in pursuing fiction writing.

I followed a lot of advice from those who had gone before me. Maybe the advice wasn’t bad, but it just didn’t work for me nor did it fit me very well.

So, in 2025 I did a lot of soul searching to find my true genre (after having written in several genres) and I have pretty much settled that Gothic Romantic Suspense is my main genre. It just fits me. I will write other stuff when the mood strikes. I am a writer and that’s what we do. I have also embraced the Artisan Author approach. I will take my time and write books that speak to me. No more following trends or trying to rapid release books that I just wasn’t all that happy with. Now, ART is first. This is my art.

I’ve also decided to publish under my own name and forget the pen name stuff. That’s just too much to juggle. This is much more simple and much more me.

I’m also selling my books direct now. I no longer wish to make Amazon, Kobo, Barnes & Noble or any other online retailer more money than I make from my books. And if you aren’t aware, indie authors barely get a cut from their book sales. For every $10K an author earns, those big retailers get about $28K.

From my own store, I can sell cheaper and still earn more money. I can also run sales. You can’t do that on other people’s platforms.

I hope you enjoy the ride with me.
